Paul was on a lunch break from recording the White Album. He heard Q&A with Townsend or the other guy from The Who (a band that just grates on me to no end). Townsend was going off about how raucous their new album was going to be. Paul said that it inspired him to turn Helter Skelter from a slow blues tune into a savage rock and roll bit.
